Community Outreach - Abiding Savior Lutheran Church

Community Outreach

At Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, we believe that we are each called to use our gifts to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10) Below, you will find more information on the ways ASLC is furthering God's kingdom in our community and beyond.

Helping Hands

The church budget designates funds that, in addition to direct congregational participation, help serve various needs in our community. Included are:

-School Supply Drive to benefit local schools

-Fall Food Drive to benefit Bread of the Mighty

-Star Tree program to benefit local schools at Christmas

-When we are able, these funds are used to help those in need of some temporary assistance with housing, electricity, or food.

Saint Francis House

“Then the King will say to those on his right. ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’  Then the righteous will answer him saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?  And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?  And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’  And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
Matthew 25:34-40

This passage from Matthew 25:35-40 reminds us that our belief in the Risen Christ compels us to serve our fellow man and, in so doing, demonstrate our love for Jesus.  Abiding Savior’s mission to provide meals and share the promise of Christ to the residents of St. Francis House is one way we can fulfill this Christian obligation.

Abiding Savior’s mission to St. Francis House (SFH) began as an offshoot of our 25th Anniversary celebration.  The anniversary team wanted to find a way to pass on the many blessings our congregation received during its first 25 years…hence, our initial foray into serving meals at SFH.  This short-term project was so meaningful to those who participated that it was decided to continue serving the homeless of our community monthly.

Meals of Hope

Meals of Hope is a food packing event that benefits Bread of the Mighty, a local organization whose mission is to provide hope and encouragement to those in our community who face hunger by increasing access to sufficient and nutritious food.

Members of Abiding Savior join with members of the community for a fun morning of packing meals to be distributed to those in the Gainesville area and beyond!

Over half of the public K-12 schools in our county qualify for free and reduced lunch for their students during the school year. This is a tremendous help, as families from low income households struggle to provide regular meals for their children. During the holiday and summer months, many of those students go without regular meals. Through Meals of Hope, we can fill that need.

While you can go ahead and mark your calendar for Saturday, May 20th 2023, more information will be provided in the Spring regarding sign up.

Through a combination of dedicated and raised funds, ASLC financially sponsors this event. If you are interested in supporting this mission, you can donate directly through Vanco Here
